I'd like to start by saying how proud I am of Acorn class this week. Due to my unexpected absence Friday, the class was split into groups and I received nothing but glowing reports from teachers about their brilliant behaviour and how well they applied themselves to the learning tasks they were given. Well done Acorn!  

This week we had lots of practical projects, including setting up our science experiments to explore evaporation and discussing what is a reversible and irreversible change. We'll be evaluating our observations this week.

In DT, we have been creating levers and sliders and refined our final design. We are very proud of our work and are looking forward to sharing them with Year 3. Pupils have been asked to bring into school thin cardboard, such as the walls of a cereal or tissue box, to create their levers from next week. Some children have already begun to bring them in, but everyone will need them for next week please.  

We had great fun in geography as we explored six-figure grid references by locating specific features using coordinates on an OS map of the school – the teams got rather competitive! 

In Art, we're very proud of how our exhibition is coming together, and the pupils are on the lookout for plain, coloured plastic bags to hang alongside their jellyfish – pink, blues, purples, white, oranges are ideal. 

We also began to developing our understanding of equivalent, mixed and improper fractions, which we'll continue to learn about next week. 

In Computing, we continued with spreadsheets and the pupils have learnt about cell addresses.

In English, we wrote a diary entry from our protagonist's point of view and continued to explore inference in our reading comprehension as well as parenthesis in our SPAG lessons. 

Our spelling test will be on Tuesday due to some of the class being at Young Voices on Monday, so you've an extra day to practice our challenge words. 

Sats Companion homework is due on Wednesday, with a follow-up homework club at Friday lunchtime.
