Week beg 18th Sept

Talk homework: Discuss with your adults what you'd like to bring in for your mixed-media collages next week

It's been a great week for Year 5. We've been expanding our knowledge of place value up to one million, and we're all very engrossed in understanding the characters of our English text. This week we wrote and edited a letter of advice to Jeff (a main character) and students got a taste of how they will need to carefully edit and rewrite their initial drafts for clarity and cohesion.

Many of the pupils have enjoyed rugby with our PE coach, Mr P; computer coding with our new Crumble system; and developing their ideas for their collages in Art. Next week, pupils will begin to create their collages, and today they've come home with a list of items that they feel they'd like to use. If you could help them with sourcing these items, that would be much appreciated – they've been asked not to raid your spice racks without permission.

Can we please urge pupils to practice their spellings throughout the week to improve their accuracy come Monday's quiz, but also to increase their chance of remembering their spellings when applying them to future writing. Practice sheets are sent home every Monday and their completion as homework (to be returned Monday) is the expectation.

Please remember to read. Every student has an AR-levelled reading book and AR quizzing is how we assess the regularity of their reading and comprehension.

On Monday, we have the Harvest Festival and a donation of a non-perishable food item will be welcomed. On Friday, there is a non-school uniform day whereby pupils are encouraged to wear something that showcases their talents, uniqueness or pride in their achievements (anything that makes them stand tall!). For example, dance, Cubs, gymnastics uniforms, rugby or football kits (if they play as part of a team). If they prefer to bring an item that showcases a talent or interest that they're proud of (that cannot be shown through their choice of clothing), then please allow them to do so and we will carve out time to share.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Schmidt
