Friday 25th October

This week's spellings: None this week, but you could look back over the ones we have learnt over the half term.

TTRockstars: Please complete 45 minutes of play per week.

Read at home at least 3 times a week for 10–15 minutes.

Stationary: Please may you ensure that your pencil cases are replenished over half-term.

We have had a fun filled week. The children have impressed us with their creativity and team work.

At inter house rugby, Noah said that he enjoyed playing tag rugby because he enjoys team sports. Hardwick won the tournament but everyone fought hard to retain the title. Years 3-6 have been learning skills, tactics and rules on how to improve their game during their PE lessons. During our science and geography trip, we visited St Mary’s Church to study the rock types and their properties. In preparation, we created a risk assessment and decided which route was the most practical for our trip. On the way, we answered positional questions using a map of Buckden as reference. Talin and Toby both said that they really enjoyed studying the fossils shown to us and map reading. It was interesting to learn more about a much loved local landmark.

When the children built Greek sustainable schools for their end of topic project, Delilah and her team designed a hydroelectric power station that pumped water from the sea. The water went through desalinisation so that it could be used in the school swimming pool and for drinking water. The children had to include topography, landscape types and sustainability in their designs. In sewing, the children designed and made bookmarks Emily said “I have got much better at stitching especially cross stitch.” The children planned their designs, practiced their sewing skills in the lead up and then created their bookmark.

It was great to see so many parents at the Accelerated Reader presentation yesterday. Your children are achieving in their reading and we are proud of how far they have progressed over the term. The children will undertake a new assessment early next term to check their progression and make sure that their book levels are aligned with their attainment levels.
