Another great week in Year 3.

We are still extending our addition and subtracting skills and knowledge. A bit more practice and we will be mastering exchanges and crossing barriers. We have also started to use equal groups and arrays to multiply.

In our CLPE book Ug, the Stone-Age people went hunting and in groups, the children tried to think of ways to make hunting easier. This provided the children with an opportunity to learn how to use persuasive language to convince an audience that their idea was the best idea!

In Geography, we learnt about the London Transport system, and we were surprised to learn that there were seven types of transport. The London Underground or The Tube is an amazing network to travel around London, but it doesn’t go everywhere, so we need buses and cabs too. The growing network of electric bikes now offers a more sustainable method of travel too.

In Art, we are continuing to learn how to use shading and sketching to draw a 3D Ancient Greek pot. This incorporates the two elements of art: value and form.

In science, this week we also learnt how forces can be non-contact, such as magnetic forces. We explored what was magnetic and what wasn’t in the classroom. We had an excellent discussion about what it would be like to have magnetic fingers!

To finish the week today, we had an amazing visit from a Bosch engineer to enhance our learning about forces. We learnt about hydraulic forces and how they are used to operate equipment. The examples were so interesting, and we learnt about how hydraulics operate the London Eye, Tower Bridge, the wheels on an aeroplane and how in the war a Valentine Bridge vehicle was an innovative contribution to the army.

Have a great weekend!
