Dear all Tiggy winkles, parents and carers,
As this is the last blog of the year I would like to say a massive thank you to all of you for making this year so wonderful. All of our parents/ carers have been so supportive and helpful through out the year and thank you for the fantastic gifts. The children have been a delight to have this year and always keep me laughing and smiling. They have all progressed so much this year and I am very proud of each and every one of them. It has been a pleasure to teach them this year and watch them grow. I will miss them all very much but I am sure they will still pop and visit me.
I hope you all have a fantastic summer holiday, stay safe and get lots of rest, have fun and enjoy yourselves.
I will see you all in September

This week we have been learning all about things that are under the sea. We read lots of riddles and had to guess what creatures they might be. We then write our own riddle.
In maths we have been looking at number bonds to 10 and addition.
We went up onto the field for our nature time this week and we made nature Olympics. there was hurdles with sticks, archery with bows and arrows, naughts and crosses using sticks, pots and other nature. There was also running tracks, long jump, log rolling, and much much more.
We are all looking forwards to meeting our new teachers next week and enterprise this afternoon.

We have had a very busy 2 weeks and apologies for not adding something last week.
We had our first week back and hit the ground running with lots of practice for our PAC performance which was amazing!!! The children all did really well and really enjoyed the whole experience.
This week we have been looking at the seaside, we have been thinking about our own experiences of being at the beach or at the seaside and the things we might find.
In English we have been working on our sentence structure remembering captial letters and full stops.
In maths we have been thinking about money and can it buy us happiness? We have had lots of interesting discussions around this.
We have been sketching shells this week and thinking about how to incorporate dtaeil into our drawings as well as making maps.
We have had a fun filled week and we are looking forward to learning about the seaside in the past next week.

WOW!! What a busy week we have had. In our literacy this week we have been reading the story ‘What the lady bird heard’. We have been making sound maps, writing the story and even making wanted posters for the 2 burglars.
In maths we have been learning to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We photocopied our hands to count in 5’s.
On Thursday to end our topic we had a camping morning. We made tents, dream catchers, fires and mud pie. The photo tell the story better but we had a fab time.
We hope everyone has a nice half term and look forward to seeing each other again in a week!!!!

Firstly apologies for there not being a blog last week. We all had such a fantastic time on our trip and we were all very tired. Here are a few pics.
This week we have been talking lots about our trip and what we enjoyed the most. We have drawn pictures and written recounts of the days. We have also been practicing really hard for our PAC concert and are looking forward to it.
In maths we have been looking at addition and word problems. We have enjoyed making our brains work really hard.
We have also been making bug catcher.
This week our butterflies hatched and we set them free. Some of them didn’t want to fly anywhere and just sat on our hands.

This week we have had a great time, especially because the sun is shining!!! Our caterpillars have made their cocoons and their transformation has started!
We have read the story superworm today and we have been writing stories ourselves. We have kept a close eye on our wormery and made lots of observations. We have also learnt lots of facts about worms.
In maths we have been doubling and counting in 10’s.
We are excited about next week and our school trip!!!!!!

This week we have been learning about slugs and snails. We read the story of Norman the slug with a sill shell. We have been writing book reviews and thinking about our favourite parts of the story.
In maths we have been learning how to count in 2’s and doubling numbers.
We made a snail home and Eden and Greta brought in some snails. Our caterpillars are growing fast!

This week we have been learning about caterpillars and butterflies. We have read the book ‘The very hungry caterpillar’. We have been writing the story and creating our own books.
We made pictures of caterpillars using paint and balloons.
In maths we have been learning about subtraction.
We have been watching our caterpillars this week and they are getting bigger!!!!!!!!
We made butterfly feeders to encourage butterflies into our garden.
We have also made preparation for next week and built our wormery so we can hopefully see the worms and their paths next week.

Friday 15th April 2016
Welcome back! We have been sharing lots of exciting news about what we have been up to over the holidays. Tiggywinkles have been very busy.
This half term we have started our new topic ‘Down at the bottom of the garden’ where we will be exploring a variety of things including animals, mini beasts, plants and recycling. We will be looking forward to a trip this half term (more information will be sent out soon)
This week we have been looking at birds. the children have made their own non- fiction books about birds, we have made bird feeders, created hideouts to go bird watching in, using classification guides to tell what types of birds we have seen. We have been really busy and excited about our topic.
In maths we have been looking at splitting a number into 2 groups in different ways and learning that we still have the same amount. we have been thinking about how the equals sign means the same as and flipping our number sentences for example 3+4=7 and 7=3+4.
We have been thinking about life cycles, what a life cycle is, what it involves and the different stages. We looked at the life cycle of a duck.
We have started our own nature journals to draw, write and create in throughout our topic.
We have also been looking at newts and tadpoles as Miss Hearth and Mrs Woodward caught some in our pond. It was very exciting to see.
We are all looking forward to another exciting week next week where we will be looking at caterpillars and butterflies.
Thursday 24th March 2016
We hope you all enjoyed coming to see the children’s super hero dance and sharing their learning journeys. I know the children were very proud of themselves. They have completed some fantastic work this half term.
The children enjoyed a visit to church to celebrate Easter this week.
Mr Ratcliffe, a local nursing super hero, came to talk to the children about his profession. It was fantastic to see all his equipment and learn the wash your hands song. We had lots of questions to ask and learnt a lot of information.
Today we were also very lucky to be visited by a lamb called Goliath. We all had to be very quiet so as not to frighten him. Goliath was only 1 week old.
We enjoyed experimenting with bubbles this week to see who could make the biggest bubble from a bubble blower that they had made themselves.
We look forward t a nice break and to be ready for next half term.
Friday 10th March 2016
This week we have been reading the story Super Eliot. We have been thinking about comic strips and made our own comic strip using the app on the Ipad. We then wrote about our comic strip.
In maths we have been looking at money. We have been making a shop and adding price labels to things, we have set up a fruit shop for snack time to pay fr snack and we have been adding money and coins together.
In our topic work we have been designing our costume that we are going to make next week. We have been colouring and making and using role play to become real life superheros.
Friday 4th March 2016
This week we have been looking at superheroes.
In English we have been looking at rhyming words. We have played lots of games and we have been writing our own superhero poem.
In maths we have been looking at weighing different items. We have been the scales to see which item is heavier and which is lighter. We have been measuring out ingredients to make play dough.
We have been exploring magnets. We made a superhero and attached a paper chip to the back. We then used a magnet to make our superhero fly.
In the nature area we have been looking at animals and what they eat. We went on a search for any clues as to what they might have been munching on in our nature area.
We have been looking at science experiments. We raced some balloons along string. We had to try different things to see if we could get the balloon all the way to the end of the piece of string.
The sounds we have been learning are:
ai, oa, ee, ng and we have been learning to write tricky words.

This week we have started out brand new topic ‘Superheros’. This week we have been thinking about our superhero names and powers.
In English we have been writing comic strip caption and comic books words.
In maths we have been looking at estimation. We have been thinking about how many items there are and then counting them accurately.
We have been looking at the artist Mondrian this week and we have created our own art work.
We have been learning about colour mixing and made potions.
Sounds we have been learning this week have included sh, ch, ng, qu and ai.
Friday 5th February 2016
This week we have been reading the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. We have been writing the story and and making wanted posted to try and catch the troll.
We made a bridge. We chose which resources we would like to use and then had to make sure that it would hold a goat. Some of us used paper, newspaper and even bricks to make our bridge.
We have been making the trolls face using clay. We really enjoyed exploring clay and learning the different ways to attach pieces and create different effects.
In phonics we have been learning v, w, x, y and z.
Next week we will be celebrating Chinese new year and reading the Three Little Pigs.
Friday 29th January 2016
This week we have been reading the story ‘ The Gingerbread man’. We have been writing speech bubbles in our literacy lessons and sounding out the words that we need.
In maths we have been looking at symmetry. We have been making symmetrical patterns using beads, shapes, counters and paint. We made symmetrical gingerbread men.
In our nature area we used natural and man made resources to make a variety of musical instruments. We listened to the different sounds that they made and compared them to the instruments that we know.
In our topic work we have been really busy. We have been making maps of the gingerbread man both as a collage and outside. We made our own gingerbread men using resources around the room.
Next week we will be reading ‘The three billy goats gruff’. We will be making bridges so if you have any newspaper or boxes at home we would be very grateful.
Friday 22nd January 2016
This week we have been learning about Little Red Riding Hood. We have made our own silly story using dice and different options, we have been writing our own books and we have been sequencing the story as well as re-enacting it.
We have been busy making silhouette pictures inspired by Lottie Reigner. We made a water colour background by using felt tip pens and wet paper. We them used charcoal to make our silhouettes.
In maths we have been looking at number bonds to 10. We have used the numicon to find 2 pieces that make 10 and then writing the calculation.
In phonics we have been learning h,b,f,l,j and reading words.
Next week we will be reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
Friday 15th January
This week we have been reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
In our English we have been pretending to be Goldilocks and writing sorry letters to the bears. We have been sounding out the words that we need and then finding the correct letters for each sound. We have been making our own stories using a plain piece of paper and our imaginations. We have also been acting out the story using puppets and dressing up.
In maths we have been thinking about ordinal numbers. We have had lots of races to see who came first, second, third, fourth and fifth. We have been looking at our ‘learn it’s’ and trying to get really quick at the answers ready for our big maths quiz next week.
We have had great fun this week painting our favourite fairy tale character. First e found and picture of them, then we used paint to create our own picture. We experimented with mixing the colours. If you are in school you can see them in the corridor near our cloak room.
Next week we will be exploring ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
We have had a very busy first week back. We have started our new topic ‘ Once Upon A Time’. This week we have been looking at Jack and the beanstalk.
We have enjoyed writing about the story and doing lots of art work. We have made collage pictures of jack and the bean stalk which the children really enjoyed.
In maths we have been looking at teen numbers and I think we have got most of them now.
Next week we will be looking at ‘ Goldilocks and the three bears’
Don’t forget the children now have spellings to complete nightly and homework set n mathletics.
Friday 11th December
This week we have been preparing for Christmas!!! We have been having lots of fun in our Santas workshop, wrapping presents, writing labels, making pictures and much much more.
In our English this week we have been using all our phonic knowledge to write a letter to Santa.
In maths we have been exploring the numicon again to see if we can make really big numbers.
We made Christmas wreaths which were really tricky to cut out but we concentrated really hard and managed it. You can see them hanging in the window.
We have explored technology by using the Ipads.
We have been fantastic writers this week and have been drawing lots of our own pictures and then writing about them.
We are looking forward to more Christmas activities and Church on Monday- if you haven’t already remember to bring in an orange and sweets for christingle.
Friday 4th December
This week we have been busy!!!!
Firstly we want to mention what a fantastic performance the children put on. The worked really hard, looked amazing and said their lines really well. We are so proud of all of them.
We have also been looking at weddings. We all wrote a wedding breakfast consisting of our favourite foods. We have been designing wedding dresses and thinking about all the things you might need for a wedding. We had a pretend wedding service where the bears got married. We all dressed up and attended the service.
We have also been preparing our role play area as Santas workshop. We have been very busy making and doing.
In maths we have been using numicon to count and add.
Friday 27th November
This week has been road safety week.
We went out into the village and counted the cars that we could see. There were a lot of cars passing the school. We learnt how to cross the road safely. We know that we have to stop, look, listen and think.
We have been thinking about the green cross code and ordering pictures to show how to cross the road.
In phonics we have had fun exploring writing letters in a variety of ways. Our favourite was the shaving foam.
We have been practicing hard for our play next week and we are all very, very, very excited and can not wait to share it with you!
Friday 20th Novemer 2015
This week we have been thinking about Baptism and Christenings. We went for a visit to the church and Rev Jes conducted a baptism ceremony for us to watch. We took baby Finley down to be baptized.
We have been looking at the story ‘Handas surprise’ and tried to remember the sequence in which the animals pinched the fruits from Handa’s basket.
In maths we have been looking at shapes, position and direction. We had good fun blindfolding our friends and giving them directions where to go.
We have been practicing really hard for our christmas play and are trying really hard to learn the songs and our lines.
Next week is road safety week so could you please talk at home about how to keep safe while walking and while in the car.
Thursday 12th November 2015
This week we have been learning abut Diwali. We have been reading stories and looking at non- fiction books as well as Hindu artifacts.
In our English we have been drawing and describing the characters from the story.
In maths we have been ordering number to 10 and then to 20.
We have been making lanterns, finger puppets, Diwali cards, rangoli patterns and much much more. We have been cooking Diwali sweets.
In the nature areas we looked at nature circles and had great fun exploring our environment.
Friday 6th November 2015
This week we have been thinking about Guy Fawkes. We read the story and have been thinking about bonfires and fireworks.
In English we have been following instructions to make firework pictures.
In maths we have been cutting out fireworks, counting how many there are and writing the number in our books.
We have done lots of arts and crafts, making rockets and sparklers. We have coloured in some pictures and practiced our handwriting.
This week was our first time in the nature area where we made a bonfire and a guy to put on top. We had good fun exploring the nature area. Jessie made a new friends, Steve the slug!

This week we have been thinking about buildings.
We have been building with lots of different things.
We have used our boxes to make a model of our house and then we made a village by putting them altogether and making a street. We added a church and school to our village.
We have completed a big write all about our house, thinking about the sounds we know to help us spell words.
We have been thinking about number and recognizing different numbers and counting things out to make a given number.
We have enjoyed playing on the pirate ship.
We have had our first honors assembly. A big congratulations to Eden and Seb!!!!!!!

Friday 16th October 2015
This week we have been thinking about rhyme and alliteration. We have been writing words that start with the same sound as our names. We have also looked at rhyming wrds and sorted out lots of objects that sound similar.
In maths we have been counting. We have made sure that we say one number name for each object. We have been making patterns again and we have looked at big and small.
We have been learning the letter:
l, f, h, b
We have been building big structures using the blocks. We have made some fantastic creations.
In PE we have been jumping. We have jumped off of benches and have learnt to bend our knees when we land. We have learnt star jumps, tuck jumps and normal jumps.
We have explored matheletics which is our online maths site we use for homework. The year 1’s have been helping the younger children and explaining what things are. The reception children will receive their login after half term so that they can explore the site and will be set homework after the Christmas holidays.
We have made pictures for the cauliflower Christmas cards which are in our bags!

This week we have been thinking about being healthy, exercise and looking after ourselves. We have made healthy eating plates and put our cutting skills to the test.
In maths we have been looking at patterns. We looked at lots of things that have patterns and we looked at making repeating patterns

We had a mini cocktail umbrella that was really tricky to open but we all managed it by ourselves.
We have been building using a variety of materials. We have made houses, planes, helicopters and ice creams. We have used lots of teamwork and we have shared with each other really well.
We have been investigating fruits and vegetables. We have been thinking about if they smell nice and look nice.
Friday 2nd October 2015
We have been really grown up and did some handwriting where we had to draw patterns on sheep and seahorses.
We have really enjoyed watching some of the jolly phonics DVD. It is our Friday treat.
Year 1 have been writing lots of sentences and have done a big write.
We have drawing pictures and writing letters to send home. We wrote our envelopes, stuck our stamp on and have been to the postbox to post them. We hope they will be landing on our doormats soon.
We did a science experiment this week to do with our senses. We had 6 cups which all had something different in. We had to smell them to see what they might be. The we tasted some of them. Some were nice and some were YUCKY!!!!!!!
We have been learning about adding 2 groups of objects together. Test out our skills at home as we were pretty good!.
We have been practicing our harvest song and we are very excited about going to church on Monday.

We have been super busy this week!
We have been doing lots of maths, year 1 have been counting up from 1 to and and counting down from 10 to 1. In reception we have been learning our numbers. We have been learning to recognize and write numbers 1-5.
We had our nature basket out this week. Inside we found conkers, conker shells, leaves, acorns and twigs. We have been making pictures of leaves and leaf rubbings.
We made pictures using shapes. We made a face!. We used circles for our eyes, a triangle for our noses, and rectangles for our mouth and hair.
Today something special happened. A pirate ship had appeared in our garden!!!. We have had great fun dressing up and playing on it.

We have been learning some of our letters and sounds. We have looked at:

We have been making the sounds, thinking about things that begin with these sounds, we played phonics musical statues, we have been practicing writing our letters and we have been using our phonics journals. We have enjoyed completing our homework too.
Year 1 in their maths have been counting up and down with numbers and looking at greater and smaller numbers than a given number. In reception we have been counting, drawing round our hands and writing the numbers and learning some counting songs such as:
10 fat sausages
5 little men in a flying saucer
12345 once i caught a fish alive
We have been learning about different parts of our body and have had a skeleton to visit.
In our outdoor area we have enjoyed our new castle, climbing frame and rock wall!!!
