Talk homework – Talk about what characters (three goodies and 1 bady) and setting you could use for your own fairytale story, using the ‘Three Billy goats gruff’ as a story guide.

Active Mathematics homework – In your children’s bookbags. Please sign, date and return weekly.

This week in English we have been looking at the story and the setting of The Billy Goats Gruff. We started the week off by looking at different settings and using excellent adjectives. Then we went to the hall and pretended we were the Billy goats gruff and the troll in their actual setting. We then planned our independent write by either building it or drawing it. Finally we have written our setting descriptions as a postcard.

In Maths this week we have been looking at positional language. We started the week off with races and using the language first, second, third and so on. Then we looked at placing people in the correct place depending on their position.

We have really enjoyed Science this week. We have looked at reflecting light off of objects and experimented which objects reflected light and which objects didn’t by shining a torch on them.

We have also continued to practise our Christmas play which we are looking forward to showing you all in a couple of weeks.

Talk Homework: To greet your family in Spanish and talk about all the different ways we can say ‘hello’.

In English we have read the ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and we have looked at the characters in the story. We have been using our punctuation skills to write questions for the Billy Goats Gruff and the Troll then we hot seated them to find out more information about them.

This week in Maths we have looked at subtraction again and also how they relate to addition questions for example in fact families and making addition stories and number sentences.

We have been designing and describing our own made up toys on a sheet of paper. We needed to think about the colours of our toy and what they are made out of.

Friday 17th November

Talk Homework: Talk about your favourite fairytale book and bring it in to share.

This week in English the children have been creating their own class non-fiction book about the toy they brought in last week. We looked at the materials they were made out of and why they were made out of it. We also looked at the colours and who plays with that toy. They have made some wonderful pieces of independent writing based around this,

In Maths we have been looking at subtraction and different methods we can use. We began the week looking at crossing out and then have finished the week by counting backwards and using a numberline which the children were very excited about.

We have been learning how to ask someones name in Spanish this week. We then followed this up with learning 2 different ways to reply. We found this extremely fun.

Talk homework: Find dark places in your house and explain why they are dark.

In English this week the children have been really enjoying learning about non-fiction writing. We started the week off by comparing non-fiction books to fiction books and looking at the difference way sentences are written. We even had a go at writing our own with our own toy.

This week in Maths we have been practising the skill of counting on by putting one number in our heads then counting on with the other. This has helped us speed up our maths calculation. We have also been talking about the equals sign and what it means.

The children have really enjoyed lots of other lessons this week from learning the Spanish alphabet talking about the birth of Jesus. But they have enjoyed Science the most. We have been discussing dark places and we looked at some that we can find out and about then the children went outside to find any dark places they could around the school. When the children had come back a den had been built and the children had to find objects in the dark.

What a fantastic week we have had in Goodall class.

This week in Maths we have been looking at numbers and their worth. We have also started our work on Maths No Problem which we are really excited about.

In English we have learnt about the word ‘and.’ We have talked about how and when to use it then even gave it a go by joining words and sentences together.

Science has been very exciting this week because we were finally able to build our boats ready for testing next week to see if they will sink or float. We thought hard and chosen carefully in order to make the best boat we can.

Talk Homework – Talk about our focus story of Handa’s surprise and think of how you can change the ending.
