I was elected as a parent governor at Buckden School in October 2011. I have lived in the village for ten years and have a daughter in Year 1 and two sons of pre-school age. I was keen to become a governor as I am very interested in how and why decisions are made within the school. I feel I have the appropriate range of skills and experience to do the job well and, since I will hopefully have one of my children at Buckden School until 2022, I have a very long-term interest in where the school is going.
My background is in education. I trained as a secondary Science teacher in 1997 after obtaining my degree in Biology from the University of York. Since then, I have worked in several local secondary schools and held a number of positions, including Head of Department.
After the birth of my daughter in 2006, I decided to leave the classroom and became a self-employed Education Consultant. This work has been varied and has included writing text books, reviewing educational websites and working for two exam boards in Cambridge. I have also tutored GCSE and A-Level students privately at home. More recently, I took up a position at a college which specialises in intensive examination preparation. I am back in the classroom again, working with students, and thoroughly enjoying it.
In my spare time, I enjoy listening to, singing and playing a wide variety of music. I was the Musical Director of Brampton Choral Society and sang with the local 12-piece a cappella group, Tapestry, for several years.
